@eddowagt the issue: creality will point you to 123-3d, they will wait for a solution from Creality.
The M-codes are Merlin specific (creality FW is Merlin based) and limit some speeds as I understand.
So guess they slow down the steppers a bit, to get them less heated?

Finally, 4.2.7 solved the layer shift for me too.
The board arrived after 30 days from china.. I wish I ordered one from Europe..
According to the tracking info my package was bouncing back and forth somewhere in China (“security return” 4 times..), this alone took at least 10 days. It’s ridiculous, no wonder packages takes 1 month to get delivered from China.
Today I installed the board, updated the firmware with the one available from the creality download page. No issues, everything is fine, except that whining noise I mentioned earlier when the head moving in a circle. I’ll try the latest firmware from the bugfix branch to see if it does eliminate this as it did before with the 4.2.2 board.
Overall it took exactly 2 months for me to be able to use my ender v2.
Hi all,
Just finished reading the whole 19 pages. Thank you all for documenting and sharing this. I bought an Ender 3 Max a few weeks ago and I was trying to fix this problem and from what is described here, this is exactly what I see. The controller board is 4.2.2. After reading part of this discussion, I opened the control box, flip it over so the board is on top and then setup the fan to blow air on the board. I just finished printing a 5hr job that I tried at least 5 times in the last week. Tonight, 100% completed, no shifted layers.
I have the same issue, layer by layer it is shifting to the left on the X axis, any clue ?
Same issue here with a unit purchased 2/20/21 from Microcenter in the US. Worked fine for about a week (I had issues with getting prints to stick to the bed at first), then suddenly yesterday – clunk – and layer shifts. Once it starts – it occurs every 5 minutes or so.
I’ve contacted Creality, and I’ll be contacting Microcenter. Unfortunately, the store is 3 hours away from me, but if I have to, I’ll return the unit. I expected something better than this…

Maybe you can try https://forums.creality3dofficial.com/community/ender-3-v2/layer-shift-ender-3-v2/paged/18/#post-3120 ?
That and also add this to the start G-Code
M205 X5 Y5 Z0.1 ; Set Jerk values
M201 X4000 Y4000 Z30 ; Set max acceleration
M204 P600 T600 ; Set acceleration
M203 X3000 Y3000 ; Set feedrate
I haven’t tried the printer without those settings, but so far I’ve had no issues
@eddowagt Good to hear we can make long prints with there settings and a 4.2.2 mainboard then. Maybe I should re-order it then 😉

I will do more testing probably next weekend. Too busy lately. 🙂
I already had a job going this morning so I did not change any settings yet.
See attached photos. On the one with “00”, we can clearly see the improvement after I open the control box and had the fan blow straight on the control board.
It is better but the problem is still there. You can see on the photo with the “START”. It got worse as it is going up. This took a bit more than 9 hours to print.
Reseller trying to tell me the layer shift problem can not be solved bij replacing the mainboard?
According to the conclusion of the technical colleagues, in the case of excluding the factors above the assembly / structure (check according to the operation instructions) which can not be effectively solved, the relevant electrostatic avoidance measures will be carried out through the video guidance, and the problem can not be solved by replacing the motherboard. Ha, the tutorial of avoiding electrostatic eVpsNJd8Az
WTF does he mean by that ?
Hello All,
Creality replied with some advices to me, check Y axis for smooth run and check cooling motherboard compartment for high temp. I did both in one action, loosen up the Y (Platform) excentrics a little and removed bottom plate from motherboard compartment. While the cooling fan was attached on the bottom plate, i mounted it with a couple of cable ties to the cabling. Apart from that, i raise the entire printer about 10 cm (put 4 caffee cups underneath, one at each corner) to get even more cool air in the motherboard compartment. Since doing both actions, i did not see the problem again! Printer is running about 24/7.
@3nderuser Ha ha… WTF exactly the reaction to the youtube video. What’s the point of ‘electrostatic avoidance measures’. Looks like Creality is making users sort their problems out. Perhaps they’ve given up giving away replacement V4.2.7 boards.
Creality Ender 5 Pro
I got the same video by creality (dangerous performance with a knife..) to show me how I could attach the housing better to protective earth. The screws are connected somehow, but not the housing itself. They recommended to connect also Y-axis to ground but I do not know why. Of course plastic ribbons can cause electro static discharges when the pulley is not connected to a functional earth. But I did not see any improvements so far.
Do you also know, that the part cooler fan is connected in parallel to the mainboard cooling fan? so if we reduce part cooling fan speed depending on filament performance we reduce also mainboard cooling…huh

Creality has sent me an 2nd mainboard replacement ?
First one was useless 4.2.2 with same problem, they shipped again but now the good one.
Had bought 4.2.7 already, so this one is spare.
Was just curious how reseller would response on the problem. He really wasn’t helpful at all.
