When I go to auto home my ender 3 it goes up a bit and than goes to the left edge and starts grinding for 5 seconds and comes up with “homing failed: PRINTER HALTED
please reset

It sounds like it's not triggering the X limit switch. I'd check the limit switch wiring connections to start with.
