Curious if anyone installed the PEI build plate to replace the glass carborundum one?  Any issues print wise?  Better results?

The glass bed works perfectly so far. As long as the plate does its job: stick the material and leave a nice first layer pattern, no difference between all the types of plates.

@eli-liu I ask because I still am not able to get a perfect first layer on larger prints regardless of what I do.  If we could adjust the z offset by .01mm it might help…

@link Your pic shows the flatness of the glass and apparently the bed is not perfectly flat. The fact is that even if you use a different plat like Pei, it may not give you a great first layer. PEI is popular is cuz of its great stickiness.

It is a pain that only 0.05mm can be used in the composition. You can use the Initial Layer Height in the slicer to make a change, or use a gcode sender.

@eli-liu Any chance Creality will update the z offset in their next firmware update?  I can’t see in being a major trouble to change from 0.05 to 0.01…   I’m sure I’m not the only one encountering this problem…

I am using the Energetic Upgrade I bought from AliExpress. Took a few weeks to get due to the xmass rush. I bought it because I like others, used a razor blade it remove some parts and the center of my glass became smooth so I had adhesion issues in that area.  I love this plate.  Everything sticks perfectly, and a simple bend after it cools and pop the part comes off. There is no residue left either.

Order Details Total: US $28.95

I ordered the PEI build plate alongside my CR6-SE in the Kickstarter.

I did run with the glass build plate for quite a bit. I do prefer the surface finish that the heated glass leaves on prints. The only thing that the glass bed was not good for was holding down smaller prints (around the size of a 3D Benchy and smaller). For smaller prints, I found myself having to rely on a raft to ensure that small parts would stick and not come away during printing.

It was for that reason I finally tried the PEI surface to see whether small print adhesion would improve. At first, I just held down the PEI surface using clips to “test it out” before applying the magnetic surface. And yep, small prints are sticking much better without needing a raft for adhesion.

Surface finish on the bottom isn’t smooth, it’s more of a texture with Creality’s PEI. But the print reliability and saving on time/filament of needing a raft made me change to it permanently.
